Rotorua District Council (RDC) Logging Operations in the Tokorangi Triangle - Updated 20 December 2011
- The RDC logging operation has now been completed.
- A digger will complete rehab work on roads, skids and tracks by 23 December 2011.
- All roads, walking and MTB tracks, not requiring reinstatement, are now open for use.
Whaka Forest Operations - COMING UP - Updated 20 December 2011
- Timberlands Limited wishes to thank the public for their patience and cooperation while forest management operations are being carried out in the Whaka Forest.
- Further harvesting and land preparation operations are planned for early 2012 but all road and MTB tracks will be OPEN during the Christmas/New Year period.
- Land Preparation (gravity roller crushing) for 2012 planting, affecting the core recreational area from the top end of Katore Road, will be suspended over the Christmas/New Year period and recommence for a few days in early January 2012. Signs will Notify - See

Roads Affected
- Katore Road (PARTLY CLOSED weekdays only from the wastewater treatments ponds, heading up towards Tokorangi Triangle after the wastewater treatment ponds).
- Spruce Road (CLOSED weekdays only).
MBT Tracks Affected
- Gunna Gotta, Katore Jumps, A-Trail, K2, The Tickler, Be Rude Not 2 (CLOSED weekdays only).
Horse Tracks Affected
- Orange (Katore) Track (CLOSED) - Harvesting Operations, affecting the effluent (treated) spray blocks on Fern Drive and Long Drive Roads, were due to commence on 5 January, however these harvesting operations have been suspended until fine weather is certain. The operation will take approximately three weeks. Fern Drive and Long Drive Roads will be CLOSED during working hours. Please obey the closure signs and banners that will be erected for your's and the crew's safety. Notice will be given prior to commencement.
By the end of January the harvesting operations will relocate to Dump and Heath Roads. These roads will be CLOSED during working hours. This operation is expected to be completed by the end of February. - Harvesting Operations, affecting the core recreational area between Red Tank Road and Tokorangi Triangle, will recommence in mid February 2012. Preparation earthworks with road rebuilding and skid formation along Nursery, Pahutaroa and Bakers Hollow Roads will be carried out prior to this harvesting operation.Roads, MTB and walking tracks will be closed during felling in adjacent areas.
- The closures and inconvenience are unavoidable for the safety of all, but Timberlands Limited is expecting to minimise the impact to recreational users. Notices and signage will be set up as normal to advise of these closures. MTB tracks through the logging areas will be closed until re-instated.

Forest Access and Closures
ACCESS - LATEST UPDATE
- Hunting and fishing access to Kaingaroa Forest is currently CLOSED. A decision to further extend the hunting season will be reviewed each Monday. This will depend on fire danger levels reducing to LOW.
ACCESS - GENERAL INFORMATION - Important Please Read
- Timberlands Limited is cooperating with Police to minimise criminal activities and unsafe behaviour in the Kaingaroa Forest. See link to the Police Media Release. Notification dated December 2011.
- Due to a major washout, Waipunga Road is impassable and CLOSED for access - Notification dated 28 January 2011.
- Access to the Rangitaiki River and Flaxy Lakes is currently CLOSED.
- Access to Lake Rotomahana through Waimungu Forest is CLOSED (i.e.: not subject to a season extension and the gate will be locked).
- Access over the public access easement of Kiorenui Road to Ngawhinga Road, then Ngawhinga Road to the Rangitaiki River remains open during daylight hours only. This is strictly for access to the Rangitaiki River. No other road(s) can be used and no other activity (i.e.: hunting) without a permit is allowed.
