KT Kaitiaki o te Ngahere 2009 Scholarship Recipient Profile:
"Growing up in Rotorua with a background in forestry, it did seem a logical step to go into the industry at some level. With a sound academic record from John Paul College in Rotorua, it seemed like further study was on the cards and then finding out about the New Zealand School of Forestry in Canterbury, my mind was made up. Getting the Timberlands scholarship was a huge help to my studies, especially the offer of work experience in the university holidays. Being able to get real, on the job experience and learn forestry skills from other trained professionals is a fantastic way to increase your skill base in various industry based applications, both out in the field and in the office. I have learned countless new skills working in the tree crop department this past summer, I am very grateful for all the opportunities that have been offered to me by Timberlands and am very much looking forward to working with them again in the coming summer holidays." - Robbie Ramlose, March 2010.
Forestry Student Work Experience
TIMBERLANDS is able to offer limited placements for students to undertake paid employment over the summer break to complete the practical work experience requirements of your course of study, including if applicable, completing a dissertation. Priority will be given to Kaitiaki o te Ngahere scholarship recipients. If you wish to register your interest in work experience please click here.
Graduate Positions
In the final year of study, prior to graduating, students have the opportunity to apply for a graduate position with TIMBERLANDS. These positions are offered annually with an expected start date of January to February of the coming year. Graduate positions are of a two-year fixed term duration, during which time, graduates are rotated throughout the business to build practical skills and knowledge across all forest management disciplines. Towards the end of the programme, graduates have the opportunity to apply for any permanent positions that become available within the company. If you wish to register your interest in a graduate position please click here.
Graduate Student Profiles:
"The Timberlands graduate programme allowed the opportunity to work within a large variety of forestry sectors while learning the ins’ and outs’ of a large scale Forest Management Company. The challenges and roles provided, not only enhanced my skills in the industry but also provided for large amounts of personal growth. Timberlands is highly motivated to up-skilling its staff through a wide range of training and courses. This training, and the knowledge shared by experienced staff, has lead me to full time employment and a very enjoyable career." - Blair Cooper, Dec 2010.

"Working at Timberlands has greatly enhanced my understanding of well executed forestry management practices.  My personal skill base has also largely increased, due to many opportunities to go on training courses provided by the company.  There is a large variety of work to get involved with within the estate, and much to learn from the highly experienced team of staff."  - Greer Wignall, Nov 2007.
